Are there different types for launch monitors?Updated 2 years ago

Launch monitors can be split into two categories; photometric and doppler radar. Photometric launch monitors, such as the SkyTrak, use photographic based technology to track the ball for a short distance (1-2m) then calculates the rest of the shot using complicated but highly accurate algorithms. Photometric-based launch monitors are great for indoor set-ups with limited space.

Doppler radar launch monitors such as FlightScope Mevo+ use radar technology, similar to those used on aircraft, to track the ball for longer distances. Radar launch monitors are great for indoor and outdoor set-ups, but require a little more space to operate.

Garmin R10 approach uses doppler radar to measure ball flight and club movement metrics. The Garmin R10 provides 17 metrics related to ball flight and club movements, five of which are directly measured and the rest calculated. The R10 is fully portable and is linked up with an excellent array of apps and software.
